New York, NY (July 6, 2026) – Eight people were rescued after a seaplane made a hard landing and crashed into the East River on Sunday afternoon in Manhattan.
According to the New York Police Department and the Fire Department of New York, the incident occurred at approximately 12 p.m. on July 5 near East 23rd Street along the East River.
Officials said the seaplane was carrying eight people when it crashed into the water. Authorities initially reported 10 occupants but later revised the passenger count to eight.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene by boat, where witness video showed the aircraft remaining upright while floating in the river as rescue operations were underway.
At least two people aboard the aircraft sustained minor injuries and were treated by emergency personnel. No fatalities have been reported.
Officials have not yet determined where the seaplane departed from or what caused the hard landing. The incident remains under investigation.
