What Should UTV Drivers Know About Turning at Intersections?
Utility terrain vehicles can be more difficult to control and protect occupants than standard passenger vehicles. When operating a UTV near roadways, drivers should maintain a controlled speed and remain aware of surrounding traffic. Extra caution is important when approaching intersections or preparing to cross or enter another road.
Turning across or onto another roadway requires careful attention to vehicles traveling in both directions. UTV drivers should slow down before making a turn, check for approaching traffic, and make sure they have enough time to complete the maneuver safely. Sudden turns or entering a roadway without a clear view can increase the chance of a collision.
Visibility is also important because UTVs are smaller than many passenger vehicles and may be harder for other motorists to notice. Using required lighting and reflective equipment can improve visibility, particularly during low-light conditions. Drivers of passenger vehicles should also watch carefully for UTVs and other smaller vehicles when approaching intersections and rural roads.
