Irvine, CA (May 28, 2026) – A 95-year-old woman died after a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning at Irvine Center Drive and Valley Oak Drive in Irvine. Police said the collision happened around 9:12 a.m. near the Oak Creek Golf Club neighborhood.
Investigators stated that the woman was driving a Toyota RAV4 when she entered the intersection against a red light. A Dodge Ram and a Tesla Model 3 were traveling through the crossing with a green signal when the Toyota struck the Dodge, pushing the truck into the Tesla. The elderly driver was taken to a hospital, where she later lost her life. The other motorists were not reported hurt.
The woman’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of her family. Detectives continue to gather information as the investigation into the wreck progresses. We extend our deepest condolences to the woman’s loved ones during this difficult time.
Why Intersections Are Common Sites for Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Busy intersections often require drivers to react quickly to traffic signals, turning vehicles, and surrounding traffic flow. When one driver runs a red light, nearby motorists may have little time to avoid a collision, especially at larger intersections with several lanes.
Multi-vehicle collisions can happen when the force of one vehicle pushes another into nearby traffic. These chain-reaction crashes may increase the likelihood of injuries because several vehicles become involved within seconds. Traffic signal timing, visibility, driver attention, and vehicle speed are among the factors commonly reviewed after intersection-related collisions. Older drivers may also face additional challenges with reaction time and visibility, particularly in heavily traveled roadway environments.
