Twin Lakes Township, MN (May 28, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Highway 210 on Tuesday, May 26. The collision left one person requiring hospital care and prompted a response from multiple agencies in Carlton County.
According to the report, a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2021 Jeep Gladiator were both traveling southbound on I-35 when they collided just before the Highway 210 junction. The Gladiator rolled off the roadway and into a ditch following the impact.
The Gladiator was driven by Erika Sue Chebor, 55, of Carlton, MN. She was taken to Essentia Duluth (St. Mary’s) with non-life-threatening injuries. Her passenger, Faith Soti Chepkemboi Chebor, 18, also of Carlton, was taken to the same facility with non-life-threatening injuries. On the other hand, the driver of the Grand Cherokee, Stephen Glenn Evans, 34, of Barnum, MN, was not hurt. Alcohol was not suspected as a factor for either driver, and both were wearing seat belts.
The cause of the wreck remains under review as part of an active inquiry. We wish Erika and Faith a smooth and speedy recovery.
What Drivers Should Know About Rollover Crashes on Interstate Highways
Rollover crashes on interstate highways are among the more serious types of collisions, even when injuries turn out to be non-life-threatening. Taller, heavier vehicles, such as trucks and SUVs, are more likely to roll when struck from the side or when a driver loses control at highway speeds. Seat belt use is one of the most effective ways to reduce harm in these situations, as unbelted occupants face a significantly higher risk of being ejected. Dry road conditions do not eliminate rollover risk, particularly when vehicles make sudden contact at speed. Maintaining a safe following distance and staying alert to surrounding traffic on busy interstates can help reduce the chance of a chain-reaction crash.
