Princeton, MN (January 1, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash involving injuries occurred on southbound Highway 169 near 1st Street in Princeton, resulting in at least one person being hospitalized and several others evaluated at the scene.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash took place at approximately 9:01 p.m. when a 2010 Chevrolet Impala traveling in the right lane was rear-ended by a 2005 Honda Civic. Both vehicles were headed southbound at the time of the collision. Princeton Police, Princeton Fire Department, and North Ambulance responded promptly to the scene.

The driver of the Impala, 48-year-old Seneca Lavarr Mccreary of Brooklyn Center, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Northland ER in Princeton for treatment. Two young passengers in the Impala—a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old male—were properly restrained and fortunately not injured.

The driver of the Civic, 34-year-old Timothy James Strehlow of St. Michael, did not report any injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether distraction or speed played a role, and no impairment was noted in the initial report.

We extend our well wishes to Mr. Mccreary for a swift and full recovery, and we are thankful the children involved were unharmed.

Rear-End Collisions in Minnesota

Rear-end crashes, like the one that occurred on Highway 169 in Princeton, are among the most common types of vehicle collisions across Minnesota. These incidents often happen on high-speed corridors and during nighttime hours when visibility decreases and driver attentiveness may wane.

Southbound Highway 169 is a key route in Mille Lacs County, and collisions in this area can disrupt both local and through traffic. While this particular incident resulted in non-life-threatening injuries, it underscores how quickly a moment of inattention or misjudgment in following distance can lead to a dangerous outcome—especially when children are among the occupants.

Fortunately, in this case, seat belts and appropriate restraints played a vital role in protecting the young passengers from injury. Yet for the injured driver, the aftermath of even a seemingly minor rear-end crash can involve significant pain, medical costs, and time away from work.

Injury victims in Minnesota are encouraged to document their injuries, seek medical care promptly, and understand their rights under state law. Access to recovery resources, legal guidance, and emotional support can be crucial following a crash involving children or families.

If you or someone close to you has been injured in a vehicle collision in Mille Lacs County or anywhere in Minnesota, don’t wait to seek help.
