Othello, WA (April 27, 2026) – A tragic crash Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of three teenagers in Othello, with authorities now charging a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the incident.
According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred along West Bench Road and involved a rollover that left three victims ejected from the vehicle. All three teens were pronounced dead at the scene. A pickup truck was also found in a nearby irrigation canal following the collision.
Investigators say evidence collected at the scene, including surveillance footage and witness statements, led them to identify a second vehicle involved in the crash. Authorities allege that 19-year-old Presiliano Perez-Pineda struck the victims’ vehicle at a high rate of speed before fleeing the scene.
Perez-Pineda has since been taken into custody and is facing three counts of vehicular homicide. One of the charges includes a domestic violence enhancement due to a prior relationship with one of the victims.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims during this heartbreaking time.
How High-Speed Collisions and Ejections Increase Fatal Crash Risks
High-speed crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway incidents, often resulting in catastrophic outcomes due to the extreme forces involved. When a vehicle is struck at high speed, it can lose stability, leading to rollovers or ejections, both of which significantly increase the likelihood of fatal injuries.
Ejections are particularly deadly because occupants are no longer protected by the vehicle’s structure, exposing them to direct impact with the ground or surrounding objects. Seatbelt use is one of the most effective ways to prevent ejection and reduce injury severity in crashes.
Additionally, crashes involving fleeing vehicles or reckless driving behaviors often occur with little warning, leaving other drivers with minimal time to react. These incidents highlight the importance of responsible driving, adherence to speed limits, and accountability on the road to prevent devastating consequences.
