Bollinger, MO (January 1, 2026) – Emergency responders from Bollinger County rushed to the scene of a two-vehicle collision that left four people injured along MO-51, approximately two miles south of Patton, just before 1:00 p.m. on December 30.

According to crash investigators from Troop E, the collision occurred when a 2014 Chrysler 200 traveling northbound attempted a left-hand turn and crossed into the path of a 2008 Kia Spectra heading southbound. The force of the crash caused the Kia to sustain total damage, while the Chrysler sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene by Reagan’s Towing.

Medics and fire crews worked swiftly to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. Among the injured were the 76-year-old female driver of the Kia and three additional occupants. A 4-year-old male child and a 31-year-old female passenger from Sedgewickville, as well as a 41-year-old female passenger from Bonne Terre in the Chrysler, all sustained injuries. Emergency medical services transported each injured party by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Authorities remained at the scene for an extended period to assess the circumstances surrounding the crash. Preliminary reports indicate that the Chrysler’s left turn maneuver directly contributed to the impact, but a full investigation remains underway.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this incident. We hope for their full and speedy recoveries.

Two-Vehicle Collisions in Missouri

Two-vehicle crashes like the one that occurred on MO-51 south of Patton represent a significant portion of injury-related traffic incidents across Missouri. In this particular crash, the convergence of turning traffic and opposing lanes created a hazardous situation that impacted multiple individuals, including a young child and several adult occupants. These types of collisions often result from momentary misjudgments in timing or visibility, particularly on rural highways where traffic speeds can remain high.

This incident underscores the ongoing need for improved driver awareness, particularly when executing left turns across lanes of oncoming traffic. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, left-turn collisions are among the top contributors to rural roadway crashes. The southbound Kia, traveling with the right-of-way, had little time to respond once the Chrysler turned across its path. With the collision occurring on a rural stretch of MO-51, response time and road visibility may have played additional roles.

In addition to physical injuries, the aftermath of such crashes often brings emotional stress and logistical challenges, especially when children are involved. Recovery can be especially complex when multiple victims are transported to regional hospitals like St. Francis Medical Center, highlighting the importance of having access to medical, legal, and support resources.

Missouri law holds that all drivers have a duty to yield appropriately when making turns, especially when crossing the path of oncoming traffic. When that obligation is not met, even unintentionally, it can result in significant harm to others. While the investigation continues, incidents like this one stress the importance of community education around high-risk maneuvers and rural road safety.

If you or someone you care about has been impacted by a crash on a Missouri highway, connecting with local support services may help ease the path toward recovery.
