Buchanan, MO (January 2, 2026) – Emergency responders from Buchanan County rushed to the scene of a serious pedestrian collision on the evening of December 31, which left one man with significant injuries. The crash occurred around 7:36 p.m. on MO-FF near Prescher Rd in the town of Agency.

Medics and fire crews worked quickly to assist a 36-year-old male pedestrian from Kansas City, who suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle. He was transported by Buchanan County EMS to Mosaic Life Care for emergency treatment. Authorities say the pedestrian was walking southbound in the southbound lane of MO-FF when he was hit.

The vehicle involved was a 2011 Honda CR-V driven by a 17-year-old female from Agency. According to officials, the teen driver was also traveling southbound when her vehicle struck the pedestrian with the front passenger side. The vehicle came to a controlled stop following the impact and sustained moderate damage. It was later towed from the scene by Collision Repair. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H, including CPL J.M. Harrison, CPL S.J. Force, and SGT S.J. Cool, assisted by the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the incident. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the crash, including roadway conditions and visibility at the time.

Our thoughts are with the injured man and his loved ones as he receives care and begins the recovery process.

Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri

Pedestrian crashes across Missouri remain a serious concern, particularly in semi-rural communities like Agency, where limited infrastructure and shared road use create hazardous conditions. The incident on MO-FF at Prescher Rd illustrates how easily tragedy can occur when pedestrians and vehicles occupy the same space without physical separation.

In this case, both the pedestrian and the vehicle were traveling southbound, suggesting the pedestrian may have been walking on or near the edge of the lane in an area without sidewalks. These kinds of environments often leave pedestrians vulnerable, especially after dark. While the driver was reportedly wearing a seatbelt and operating the vehicle lawfully, investigators will likely consider whether poor lighting or a lack of pedestrian markings contributed to the collision.

Missouri data shows a concerning rise in pedestrian-involved crashes, many resulting in serious or fatal injuries. Contributing factors often include nighttime visibility challenges, driver distraction, and the absence of safe walking routes along rural and secondary roads.

Pedestrians injured in motor vehicle collisions face not only immediate medical emergencies but also long-term impacts, from physical rehabilitation to financial stress and emotional trauma. Navigating the days following a serious crash can be overwhelming, particularly for families unsure of where to turn for support.

Understanding your options and accessing help early can make all the difference. Whether it’s pursuing rehabilitation, recovering lost wages, or ensuring that the facts of the crash are properly investigated, timely action is essential.
