Mississippi, MO (January 4, 2026) – Emergency responders were on the scene on Friday morning after a two-vehicle crash on MO-105, approximately six miles south of Charleston in Mississippi County, left one woman injured and resulted in a vehicle overturning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. when a northbound 2013 Kia Forte, driven by a 57-year-old woman from East Prairie, slowed down along MO-105. A northbound 2015 Honda Accord, driven by an 18-year-old male, also from East Prairie, failed to stop in time and collided with the rear of the Kia. Following the impact, the Accord veered off the left side of the roadway and overturned.

Emergency responders from Charleston Fire and Rescue, along with paramedics, arrived quickly and provided assistance at the scene. The female driver of the Kia sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center for further evaluation. The teenage driver of the Accord did not report injuries at the scene but had not been wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Heppe’s Towing due to the severity of the damage. The Honda Accord was totaled, while the Kia Forte sustained moderate damage. The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We extend our best wishes for a smooth recovery to the injured individual and all those affected by this incident.

Rear-End Accidents in Missouri

Rear-end crashes remain one of the most common types of collisions on Missouri roads, and Friday’s incident on MO-105 underscores the dangers these crashes pose—especially when compounded by high speeds or inattention. The collision near Charleston involved two vehicles traveling in the same direction, with the lead vehicle slowing down prior to impact. Unfortunately, the trailing vehicle was unable to stop in time, leading to a rear-end impact and a rollover.

Missouri’s rural highways, like the stretch of MO-105 south of Charleston, often have limited visibility and fewer traffic control measures, which can increase the risk of such collisions. Teen drivers, like the 18-year-old involved in this crash, may be especially vulnerable to distraction or delayed reaction times. This highlights the importance of education and driver safety programs targeting younger motorists.

The use of seatbelts also plays a critical role in injury outcomes. In this incident, the injured woman was wearing her safety device and sustained only minor injuries. In contrast, the teen driver was not buckled in during the crash, which significantly increases the risk of serious harm in rollover situations. Promoting consistent seatbelt use remains a public safety priority across the state.

Even crashes that appear minor at first glance can have lasting consequences, physically, emotionally, and financially. Victims may need medical follow-up, transportation support, or legal guidance as they recover. Especially in smaller communities like East Prairie or Charleston, knowing where to turn for assistance can make all the difference after an accident.
