Miller Co, MO (January 4, 2026) – A rear-end collision along US-54 westbound, just east of Mt. Carmel Rd, resulted in one person being injured early on Friday afternoon. The crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. and involved a pickup truck and a box truck traveling in the same direction.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 62-year-old man from Iberia was behind the wheel of a 2025 Ford Ranger when the front of his vehicle struck the rear of a 2008 Chevrolet C6 box truck. Both vehicles were westbound at the time of the crash. The force of the impact caused significant damage to the Ranger, which had to be removed from the scene by Wood’s Towing.
The driver of the Ford Ranger sustained injuries and was transported to Lake Regional Hospital by Miller County Ambulance for evaluation and treatment. The 51-year-old driver of the box truck, a resident of Lebanon, was reportedly uninjured and able to drive his vehicle from the scene.
Responding officers from Troop F, including Tpr. I. J. Smith and Tpr. J. C. Simpson assisted in the investigation, which remains ongoing. No additional details about road conditions or contributing factors have been released at this time.
We extend our well wishes to the injured driver and hope for a full and swift recovery.
Rear-End Crashes in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are one of the most frequent types of traffic accidents in Missouri, often occurring along high-speed routes like US-54. The circumstances of this crash, where one vehicle struck the back of another, are consistent with scenarios involving sudden slowing, distracted driving, or following too closely. While this incident resulted in only minor injuries, such crashes can quickly turn severe, depending on speed, vehicle type, and occupant protection.
In this case, the injured driver was wearing a seat belt, a factor that likely minimized the extent of his injuries. Missouri continues to emphasize seat belt usage across all age groups, particularly on rural highways where speed limits and traffic flow may vary significantly.
US-54 is a critical corridor running through central Missouri and sees regular commercial and personal traffic. The mix of box trucks, commercial vehicles, and passenger cars increases the importance of situational awareness and proper following distance. Drivers are reminded that large vehicles may have longer braking distances, and sudden stops in these environments can quickly result in chain-reaction crashes.
For those injured in rear-end collisions, it’s important to seek medical care promptly, even for minor symptoms, as some conditions may not appear immediately. Individuals involved in such accidents may also consider reviewing their insurance coverage and liability circumstances, particularly if work vehicles or commercial operators are involved.
