Greene Co, MO (January 4, 2026) – A teenage passenger was injured on Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash just east of Battlefield on Farm Rd 131. The incident occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. and involved a juvenile driver operating a Kia and an adult male in a Ford pickup.

According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened when a 2021 Kia K5, driven eastbound by a 16-year-old female from Springfield, failed to yield. As she entered the intersection, her vehicle was struck by a southbound 2014 Ford F150.

The force of the crash caused moderate damage to the Kia, which had to be towed from the scene by Henry’s Towing. The Ford F150 sustained only minor damage and was able to be driven away. A 15-year-old male passenger in the Kia sustained injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Both drivers were reportedly wearing seat belts and were not injured.

Trooper S.R. Glass of Troop D is handling the investigation, which is ongoing. No further details have been released regarding citations or contributing conditions.

We wish the injured teen a full and speedy recovery.

Intersection Accidents in Missouri

Crashes at intersections, particularly those involving failure to yield, are a common hazard on Missouri roadways. The collision near Farm Rd 131 and Battlefield in Greene County is another example of how brief lapses in judgment at cross streets can lead to serious consequences, especially when younger drivers are involved.

Teen drivers, while often cautious, may lack the experience needed to assess fast-moving cross traffic or the timing required to safely yield. This incident occurred on a relatively local road, but intersections like Farm Rd 131 can serve as connectors between larger arteries, creating points of high risk when drivers are inattentive or misjudge the flow of traffic.

In this crash, it was fortunate that seat belts were in use. The injured teen suffered only minor injuries and was able to be transported privately for care. Still, any crash involving juveniles can be a wake-up call for parents and communities alike to reinforce key driving safety lessons, including the rules of right-of-way and heightened awareness at intersections.

Missouri’s driver education programs and graduated licensing system aim to prepare young drivers for exactly these types of scenarios, but real-world experience and parental involvement remain critical. Road safety also depends on infrastructure, signage, and the ability of all drivers to anticipate potential hazards from others on the road.

For families coping with accidents involving minors, even non-life-threatening injuries can bring medical bills, insurance complications, and stress. Understanding your rights and what support exists can help ease the burden.
