Greene, MO (January 6, 2026) – A serious collision west of Republic in Greene County resulted in injuries to one driver after two vehicles collided on Route T on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m., approximately three miles west of Republic, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper J. Lock of Troop D. Investigators reported that a 17-year-old male from Willard, driving a 2016 Chevrolet Spark westbound, failed to yield and struck a 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by a 32-year-old woman from Springfield.

Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Missouri Roadside Recovery. Emergency crews responded promptly, and the woman was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment of injuries. Both drivers were reported to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The teen driver was not reported injured. No citations or contributing environmental factors have been publicly released, and the crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts go out to the injured driver, and we wish her a swift and full recovery.

Right-of-Way Collisions in Missouri

Failing to yield the right-of-way remains one of the leading causes of vehicle crashes across Missouri, particularly on rural highways like Route T near Republic. Monday’s crash involving a teenage driver and an adult woman offers a stark reminder of the dangers associated with misjudging or ignoring yield rules, especially at intersections or crossing points with limited visibility.

The Missouri Department of Transportation regularly reports that right-of-way violations account for a significant percentage of injury-causing collisions on two-lane roads in less urbanized areas. In this case, the 17-year-old driver’s failure to yield led to a high-impact crash that totaled both vehicles and left one person hospitalized.

Even when speed is moderate, the force of a broadside or angle-impact crash can result in serious damage. Fortunately, both drivers were properly restrained, which likely reduced the severity of injuries. Seat belt use remains a crucial factor in survivability and injury mitigation during crashes, especially those involving younger or less experienced drivers.

As rural communities like those around the Republic continue to grow, traffic volume on routes like RT T increases. This underscores the need for improved signage, clearer right-of-way enforcement, and continued public education, particularly for young drivers still gaining experience.

If you or someone you know has been hurt in a collision due to a failure to yield, understanding your rights and what steps to take next is essential.
