Morgantown, WV (January 8, 2026) – Two people were injured Wednesday evening in a five-vehicle rollover crash that shut down part of I-79 in Monongalia County for over two hours, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were first alerted to the crash at approximately 6:05 p.m. Emergency crews arrived to find a chaotic scene involving five vehicles, including at least one that had rolled over. Medics treated and transported two individuals to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The severity of their injuries has not yet been released.
Traffic on I-79 was fully reopened by 8:20 p.m. after the scene was cleared. Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, and no additional details have been made available at this time.
