Crash Risks at Rural Highway Intersections
Rural highway intersections can carry fast-moving traffic, large trucks, and local drivers entering or crossing the roadway. These areas may become dangerous when vehicles meet at different speeds or when a driver has limited time to react.
Crashes involving dump trucks and pickup trucks can be especially severe because of the size and weight difference between the vehicles. Larger vehicles need more space to stop and may cause heavy damage during impact.
After a serious crash, lane closures may last for several hours. Emergency units may need time to help injured people, remove damaged vehicles, and clear debris before traffic can safely move through the area again.
