Why Head-On Crashes Often Cause Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes are often serious because the force of two vehicles moving toward each other can be very strong. Even at moderate speeds, the impact can cause major damage to both vehicles and the people inside them.
These crashes can happen on rural roads, two-lane highways, and roads without wide medians. A vehicle that crosses the center line may leave little time for the other driver to react. Road curves, darkness, and traffic conditions may also affect how much time a driver has to avoid a crash.
Medical care after a head-on collision can involve treatment for serious injuries, including chest, head, or leg trauma. The final outcome often depends on the speed of the vehicles, seat belt use, and the point of impact.
