Decatur, IL (January 8, 2026) – A tragic rollover collision left one man dead and another critically injured following a serious two-vehicle crash in Decatur late Wednesday morning. The incident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on January 7, near the intersection of N Water St and E Mound Rd, close to Target and Olive Garden.
According to the Decatur Police Department, the crash happened when the driver of a white SUV was making a left turn onto East Mound Rd from North Water St under a green arrow signal. A silver truck traveling north on N Water St reportedly ran a red light and collided with the SUV in the intersection, causing a violent rollover.
Emergency crews arrived promptly and shut down the intersection for several hours while they attended to the victims and began their investigation. The driver of the SUV, a 72-year-old Decatur resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year-old driver of the silver truck was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities confirmed that neither vehicle carried any passengers, and there is currently no evidence suggesting impairment as a factor. The intersection has since been reopened, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the families affected by this devastating crash. We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the man who lost his life and wish strength and healing to the individual still fighting to recover.
