Clay, MO (January 9, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle crash on northbound I-435 at Shoal Creek Parkway left one woman injured on Thursday evening after a vehicle struck a barrier and re-entered traffic.
The crash happened around 4:55 p.m. on January 8 in Clay County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2025 Chevrolet Trax driven by a 73-year-old woman from Independence veered off the right side of the interstate and struck a concrete barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to bounce back into the roadway, where it collided with a 2021 Ford Edge driven by a 50-year-old Kansas City woman. Following the second impact, the Ford also left the roadway and struck a separate concrete barrier.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and had to be towed from the scene, one by GT Towing and the other by Integrity Towing. The driver of the Chevrolet Trax was wearing a seat belt and suffered injuries. She was transported to Liberty Hospital by Kansas City Fire personnel. The second driver was not reported injured.
Trooper A.M. Storey of Troop A led the investigation with assistance from Trooper J.R. Boydston, Claycomo Police Department, and Pleasant Valley Police Department. Authorities have not released details on what may have caused the initial loss of control.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish her a full and quick recovery.
