Robbins, IL (January 10, 2026) – A tragic collision claimed the life of a 63-year-old man who was struck while using a mobility scooter in a crosswalk Friday afternoon at the intersection of 139th Street and Kedzie Avenue.
The fatal crash occurred around 12:31 p.m. on January 9, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities reported that a vehicle traveling northbound on Kedzie Avenue hit the man as he crossed the street in his mobility scooter.
The victim, identified as Sammy Simmons of Robbins, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders from Robbins and Cook County Sheriff’s Police arrived shortly after the incident and began an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The vehicle involved in the collision has not been publicly described, and no arrests or citations have been announced as of this report. Robbins police requested assistance from Cook County Sheriff’s detectives to further examine evidence and interview potential witnesses.
The intersection was temporarily closed while crews worked to document the scene and assist with cleanup. Traffic was rerouted during the investigation, which remains ongoing.
