What Makes High-Speed Intersection Crashes So Dangerous?
Crashes at intersections can become more severe when one vehicle enters against a traffic signal. Drivers traveling with the right of way may have little time to react, especially if the other vehicle is moving at a high speed.
High-speed impacts increase the likelihood of occupants being thrown from a vehicle, particularly if safety restraints are not used or if the force of the crash is extreme. These situations often result in serious or fatal injuries.
Urban intersections are designed to control traffic flow, but they rely on drivers following signals and rules. When those are ignored, the risk of a severe collision rises significantly for everyone on the road.
