Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Pose Serious Risks to Pedestrians
Hit-and-run crashes are particularly dangerous because victims may not receive immediate assistance from the driver involved. In many cases, those struck are left relying on bystanders or emergency responders for aid.
Pedestrians are especially vulnerable in collisions due to the lack of physical protection. Even at moderate speeds, impacts can result in severe or fatal injuries.
Busy roadways and connector routes often see higher speeds and heavier traffic, increasing the likelihood of serious outcomes. Remaining alert, using designated crossings, and encouraging accountability on the road are key steps in improving pedestrian safety.
