What Can Happen in Multi-Vehicle Interstate Crashes?
Multi-vehicle crashes can develop quickly when several vehicles are traveling close together. A collision involving one vehicle may cause nearby drivers to brake or change direction, creating additional impacts within the traffic stream.
Crash reviews can include vehicle positions, damage patterns, roadway conditions, traffic flow, and available video. Investigators may also examine skid marks and other physical evidence to establish the sequence of impacts. Lane restrictions or ramp closures may remain in place while damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is made safe.
