Delray Beach, FL (January 12, 2026) – A high-speed crash on Saturday afternoon ended in tragedy when a Porsche 911 plunged into a drainage canal off State Road 7 north of Winners Circle. The driver was killed and a passenger critically injured, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 12:19 p.m. when a 2021 Porsche 911, traveling southbound on SR-7, reportedly accelerated to a high rate of speed. Investigators say the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crossed the center median, struck a small palm tree, and barreled across the northbound lanes. The car then breached a guardrail before plunging into a drainage canal, where it became submerged.
Witnesses and Good Samaritans acted quickly, pulling both occupants from the water before first responders arrived. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Jeffrey Kay of Boca Raton, was transported to Delray Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 1:08 p.m.
The passenger, 57-year-old Timothy Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, was also transported to the hospital and is currently listed in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that Kay was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Traffic Division is continuing its investigation and has asked the public to come forward with any information or dash-cam footage from the area near Winners Circle around midday Saturday.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Jeffrey Kay, and we hope for a full recovery for Mr. Wilson.
