Fresno, CA (January 12, 2026) – A massive chain-reaction crash involving 17 vehicles resulted in the death of one man and left multiple others injured, including children, on Sunday morning along Highway 99 just south of North Ave. The devastating pile-up occurred around 9:15 a.m. on January 11, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency responders arrived at a chaotic scene, where several vehicles—including a commercial travel trailer—were scattered across multiple lanes. A 61-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Numerous other victims, some with serious injuries, were triaged and transported to area hospitals for further treatment. Children were reportedly among those hurt, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
Due to the large number of injured individuals, a Fresno FAX bus was utilized to help transport victims to nearby medical centers. Several ambulances and emergency crews remained on-site for hours, working to assist victims, direct traffic, and clear the roadway.
The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, though officials are investigating whether weather, visibility, or driver error contributed to the pile-up. The northbound side of Highway 99 was closed for an extended period while investigators from CHP and support agencies assessed the scene and removed the wreckage.
We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the man who lost his life and send our thoughts to all those injured in this tragic accident.
