Long Beach, NY (January 13, 2026) – A 79-year-old man was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing West Park Ave on Sunday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
The collision occurred at approximately 5:23 p.m. as Thomas Maloney, a Long Beach resident, was attempting to cross the street. Authorities say a BMW SUV traveling eastbound struck Maloney in the roadway, causing severe trauma. Emergency medical teams responded swiftly, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Maloney was later pronounced dead at the hospital. No other injuries were reported in the incident. Police confirmed that the driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation into the crash remains ongoing as law enforcement officials work to determine the full circumstances that led to this tragic loss.
