San Diego, CA (January 18, 2026) – Emergency medical services responded Friday evening to a rear-end collision involving a 73-year-old woman on Frost St in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego.
The incident occurred on January 17, when the woman had just returned to her parked four-door sedan. According to emergency personnel, the woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time she was struck from behind by a midsize crossover vehicle traveling approximately 30 to 40 miles per hour. The force of the impact caused her to lurch forward and strike her head against the steering wheel.
Medics from San Diego County Fire arrived quickly and assessed the victim, who remained conscious and alert throughout. She sustained multiple injuries, including a golf ball-sized hematoma above her right eyebrow, abrasions to her forehead and face, bruising to the lips and nose, and reported neck stiffness. There was no airbag deployment, and while the rear of her vehicle suffered moderate damage, there was no intrusion into the passenger compartment.
Although she declined pain medication and IV treatment at the scene, the woman was placed in a cervical collar and transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. No additional occupants or injuries were reported.
The San Diego Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we hope she makes a full and speedy recovery.
