San Diego, CA (January 18, 2026) – A motorcyclist was hospitalized Friday evening after being seriously injured in a collision with a turning vehicle near W Arbor Dr in the Coronado area of San Diego.
The crash took place on January 17 around 7:11 p.m. as the rider, reportedly traveling at approximately 35 miles per hour, struck the driver’s side of a vehicle that turned suddenly in front of him. The impact caused the rider to fall to the ground, landing on his side and hitting the back of his head against the pavement.
Emergency medical crews responded promptly and began assessing the man at the scene. Paramedics from San Diego Fire-Rescue reported that the rider was wearing a helmet, though he was otherwise dressed in jeans and a hoodie. Medics treated the victim for what appeared to be a dislocated left shoulder, a three-inch full-thickness laceration to the right knee, and a one-inch laceration to the right hand near the knuckles.
Although the rider initially denied head, neck, or back pain and had no loss of consciousness, the crash was ultimately classified as a major injury event due to the speed and mechanism of impact. The patient was transported to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest for further treatment.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Officials have not released the rider’s identity at this time.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we wish him a swift and full recovery.
