Memphis, TN (January 18, 2026) – Two people were injured Saturday morning in a crash involving a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) vehicle in the Frayser neighborhood of Memphis. The collision occurred near Overton Crossing St and Woodlawn Terrace and is believed to be connected to a possible police pursuit.
The victims, identified by family as Chrissy Smith and her husband, Octavion Smith, were traveling in their SUV when the incident occurred. Family members reported that a THP vehicle struck their vehicle during the encounter. The exact details of the crash and whether a pursuit was officially in progress remain under investigation.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and the area was blocked off by multiple THP units during the initial response. The street was reopened by Saturday afternoon.
Octavion Smith sustained injuries and remains hospitalized, according to his family. His wife, Chrissy, was also hurt in the crash. Both are expected to recover, though loved ones say it may be a long road ahead.
Ashley King, the sister of one of the victims, shared that she was alerted to the crash through the Life360 smartphone app. “A car can be replaced, but their lives can’t,” she said, expressing relief that her family members survived the impact.
Officials have not released a formal statement on the cause of the crash or confirmed whether the THP vehicle was engaged in an active pursuit. The incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Chrissy and Octavion Smith, and we wish them a full and smooth recovery.
