Willimantic, CT (January 19, 2026) – A multi-agency response was launched late on Sunday night after a devastating fire broke out at the Armory Apartment Complex on 255 Pleasant St in Willimantic. The 3-alarm structure fire left one person seriously injured and drew crews from at least seven departments across the region.
Emergency calls reporting the fire came in around 10:00 p.m. on January 18, with dispatchers receiving confirmation of flames through the roof and a burn victim on-site. Fire companies from Willimantic, North Windham, Windham Center, Columbia, UConn, Norwich, and Scotland responded as the fire quickly escalated.
Willimantic EMS and Mansfield Ambulance joined the scene to treat and transport a burn victim who suffered serious injuries. That individual was taken by ground to Hartford Hospital for advanced care. Several additional ambulances remained at the scene on standby as firefighters continued their attack on the blaze. Utility crews from Eversource and local gas companies were also requested to assist with securing the area.
The fire heavily damaged the apartment complex, and emergency personnel remained at the location into the early morning hours to manage hotspots and investigate the cause.
Our thoughts are with the burn victim and the affected residents of the Armory Apartments as recovery efforts begin.
