Wyandotte County, KS (January 19, 2026) – A rear-end collision involving a disabled vehicle left two children injured on northbound Interstate 635, just north of Orville Ave, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 4:09 p.m. near mile marker 5, where a northbound pickup truck struck the rear of an SUV that had stopped on the inside shoulder. The impact caused injuries to two young passengers in the SUV, both of whom were transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital for treatment.
Authorities reported that a 6-year-old boy sustained suspected minor injuries, while an 8-year-old girl suffered more serious injuries as a result of the crash. The SUV’s driver, a 28-year-old woman from Wichita, and the 25-year-old Kansas City man operating the pickup were not injured, according to officials.
The scene was cleared shortly after initial investigations, and traffic returned to normal. Authorities have not indicated whether charges will be filed or what led to the pickup’s failure to avoid the stopped vehicle.
Our thoughts are with the children and their families, and we hope for a swift and complete recovery, especially for the young girl facing serious injuries.
