Gonzales, CA (January 21, 2026) – One person lost their life, and at least two others were injured following a serious single-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon on River Rd in Gonzales, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:33 p.m. on January 19 along River Rd, also known as County Road G17, just north of Gonzales River Rd. Reports indicate that a car traveling through the area struck a power pole under circumstances that remain unclear.
After the impact, multiple occupants were affected. A passenger reportedly exited the vehicle and attempted to assist others inside. Emergency crews arrived to find a man lying on the right shoulder of the roadway and a younger woman outside the vehicle, both suffering from visible injuries. A baby was also located inside the vehicle at the time responders arrived.
Firefighters and paramedics provided immediate medical care at the scene. CPR was administered to at least one individual who sustained major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, authorities later confirmed that one person died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Additional victims were treated for a variety of injuries, though their current conditions have not been fully detailed.
The roadway was impacted while first responders worked to secure the scene and assist those involved. CHP officers are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the collision.
