Skaneateles, NY (January 23, 2026) – A tragic industrial accident claimed the life of a man in his 20s on Thursday morning in the town of Skaneateles, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene on Coon Hill Rd shortly after 10:36 a.m. following reports that an individual had been struck in the head by heavy machinery. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed that the man had suffered a severe head injury involving an excavator.
He was quickly transported to Upstate University Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the equipment was being operated at the time.
