Folsom, CA (January 23, 2026) – A tragic accident at a light rail station in Folsom claimed the life of a pedestrian and left one driver injured Thursday afternoon. The incident was reported at approximately 2:50 p.m. on January 22 near the intersection of Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road.
According to the Folsom Police Department, a vehicle struck a pedestrian before crashing into the light rail platform. The vehicle overturned and came to a stop on the train tracks adjacent to the platform.
Emergency responders from the Folsom Police Department, Folsom Fire Department, and Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) arrived quickly to assist. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to UC Davis Medical Center with injuries. The severity of those injuries has not been publicly disclosed.
As a result of the crash, SacRT officials temporarily halted light rail service between the Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations to allow for investigation and safe recovery operations.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident, including the vehicle’s trajectory and whether speed or other factors contributed to the crash.
