Trinity County, CA (January 26, 2026) – A devastating head-on accident along Hwy 299 near Del Loma on January 24 led to the deaths of four individuals and left two others with serious injuries, according to authorities with the California Highway Patrol.
The collision took place at approximately 6:50 p.m. when a white Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound veered into the eastbound lane and collided with a red Chevrolet Impala. CHP officials confirmed that five occupants were inside the Impala at the time of the crash.
Tragically, four of those passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. A fifth occupant was flown from the site by air ambulance with what authorities described as major injuries. The driver of the Jeep also sustained severe trauma and was transported for emergency treatment.
Responders arriving on scene worked quickly to assess injuries, secure the roadway, and coordinate airlift support. The area was shut down for several hours overnight as troopers documented the scene and began initial investigative procedures.
Investigators have indicated that alcohol is being considered as a possible contributing factor in the collision. The identities of the deceased have not yet been publicly released.
