Larimer County, CO (January 26, 2026) – One person lost their life, and another suffered serious injuries following a violent head-on collision involving a semi-truck on US 287 in northern Larimer County.
The deadly accident took place in the early hours of January 24, near mile marker 355 on US 287 between County Road 54G and Highway 14. Investigators with the Colorado State Patrol stated that a 25-year-old man was driving a semi-truck in the wrong direction when it struck a Toyota sedan head-on.
A passenger inside the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle sustained Class 2 injuries and was given medical attention by responding emergency crews before being transported for advanced treatment. At this time, the exact number of occupants in the sedan remains unclear.
Authorities shut down a portion of US 287 for an extended period to conduct on-site investigations and begin roadway cleanup. As of the latest update, the highway closure remains in effect as officials continue working the scene.
Troopers have not yet released details about what caused the truck to travel against traffic. The investigation is ongoing.
