Clay, MO (January 27, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and a passenger car resulted in injuries Monday evening on the northbound side of I-35 at the I-29 interchange in Clay County.
The collision took place at approximately 6:25 p.m. when a 2018 Freightliner, operated by a 61-year-old man from Spring Hill, KS, attempted a lane change and struck a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu traveling alongside. The impact left both vehicles with minor damage, though the Chevrolet was towed from the scene by Brad’s Tow due to safety concerns. The Freightliner was able to be driven away.
A 15-year-old female passenger in the Chevrolet, a resident of Kansas City, MO, sustained injuries as a result of the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and was later transported to North Kansas City Hospital by a private vehicle for further evaluation.
Authorities with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by Corporal J.A. Green, conducted on-scene assessments and managed traffic around the crash site. Both drivers were reportedly uninjured.
The investigation is ongoing as officials review how the lane change contributed to the collision. No citations or arrests have been reported as of Monday night.
We extend our best wishes to the injured teen and hope for her swift recovery.
