La Jolla, CA (January 28, 2026) – A 37-year-old pregnant woman was transported to a trauma center Monday morning after being injured in a freeway crash near Gilman Dr in La Jolla, according to emergency radio communications.
The woman was a passenger in a small crossover vehicle traveling at freeway speeds when another car struck the passenger side. Both doors on that side sustained damage, though intrusion into the cabin was reported as less than one foot. The door was jammed, but not heavily deformed inward.
She was fully restrained at the time of the crash and did not lose consciousness or hit her head. However, she began experiencing abdominal pain and right shoulder discomfort, believed to be related to seatbelt pressure. Paramedics noted that she is six months pregnant and has a known condition involving a low-lying placenta, though no other complications had been noted during her ongoing prenatal care.
Vital signs at the scene were stable, and no head, neck, or back injuries were reported. Due to her pregnancy and the nature of the impact, Medic 56 transported her as a special consideration patient directly to the trauma unit at UC San Diego.
The crash remains under investigation, and no information about the other vehicle or driver has been released.
We wish the injured woman and her unborn child a safe and full recovery.
