Auburn, CA (January 29, 2026) – A woman and her 10-month-old baby sustained major injuries Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and High Street in Auburn, according to the local police department.
The collision occurred just before 4:00 p.m. as the woman was pushing the infant in a stroller across the street. A vehicle making a turn onto High Street struck them in the crosswalk. Both victims suffered head injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Officials described their injuries as major, though no updates on their conditions have been provided.
According to Auburn police, the driver was traveling below the posted speed limit at the time of the crash. Investigators believe sun glare may have obstructed the driver’s view, contributing to the incident. Authorities have ruled out impairment, noting that drugs and alcohol were not suspected factors.
High Street was temporarily closed to allow first responders to work at the scene but was reopened by approximately 5:30 p.m.
This incident remains under active investigation. Our thoughts are with the woman and child as they receive care and begin the road to recovery
