Santa Clara County, CA (January 30, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle accident resulted in major injuries Thursday evening on eastbound State Route 152 just west of Lower Cottonwood in rural Santa Clara County, according to California Highway Patrol reports.
The crash occurred around 7:56 p.m. and involved a brown PT Cruiser and a red Hyundai CRV. The Hyundai reportedly veered off the roadway and rolled approximately 300 feet down an embankment. The occupant of the CRV was found trapped inside the vehicle but was alert and conscious when first responders arrived.
Emergency personnel from Cal Fire and American Medical Response (AMR) worked to extricate the injured individual and initiated medical transport. One party was airlifted by CALSTAR to receive further treatment due to the severity of the injuries. Additional individuals from the second vehicle, a brown Chevrolet sedan, were seen walking around the scene and also evaluated.
Tow trucks were requested for both vehicles, including one that will return during daylight hours due to safety concerns surrounding vehicle recovery. The crash prompted temporary traffic control measures and signage activation by Caltrans.
