Morongo Valley, CA (January 31, 2026) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a tragic collision on Twentynine Palms Highway in Morongo Valley. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 5:35 AM east of Adeline Way.
Emergency responders from the Morongo Valley Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced the pedestrian deceased. The victim was later identified as David James Hill, 62, a resident of Morongo Valley. CHP officers remained on scene to investigate the crash and manage traffic flow during the morning commute.
According to preliminary findings from CHP, Hill had been walking within the #1 lane of westbound Twentynine Palms Highway when he was struck by a white Hyundai Sonata traveling in the same direction. The initial impact caused Hill to be thrown into the eastbound lanes, where he was subsequently hit by additional vehicles.
First responders provided scene support and conducted a thorough preliminary assessment. Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not released the names of the drivers involved. The operator of the Hyundai Sonata is reportedly a resident of Yucca Valley.
CHP investigators stated that neither alcohol nor drug use is suspected in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to evaluate the circumstances and determine whether any additional factors played a role in the fatal collision.
Traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway was heavily affected throughout the early morning hours as authorities worked to process evidence and clear the roadway. Lanes were eventually reopened once emergency crews concluded their work.
Our deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones of David Hill. We hope they find strength and support during this incredibly difficult time.
