St. Charles, MO (February 20, 2026) – A head-on crash involving two vehicles left both drivers hurt Thursday morning at the intersection of Missouri DD and Wilson Rd in St. Charles County. The collision happened around 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, February 19.

According to the report, a 2009 Kia Rio was traveling northbound when it drifted into oncoming traffic. The vehicle then struck the front of a southbound 2015 Ford Transit. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were later towed from the scene.

The 58-year-old woman driving the Kia, a Defiance resident, suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment. The 69-year-old man driving the Ford, also from Defiance, was hurt and taken to Progress West Hospital. Both drivers were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.

Emergency units responded to the scene and assisted those involved. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.

What Happens After a Head-On Crash in Missouri?

Head-on crashes often lead to severe damage because both vehicles are moving toward each other at impact. The force of the collision can result in serious harm, even when drivers are wearing seat belts. These types of crashes frequently occur on two-lane roads where there is no physical barrier between opposing traffic.

In Missouri, investigators typically review vehicle positions, road conditions, and driver actions to determine how a vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes. Medical reports may also help clarify how the crash unfolded. Head-on accidents can involve extended hospital stays and long recovery periods, especially for older drivers.

Roadway design and driver awareness both factor into reducing these types of incidents. Staying alert, avoiding distractions, and maintaining proper lane position are key steps in lowering the risk of similar collisions on rural and county roads throughout the state.
