What Happens After a Fatal Crash on a Major Chicago Expressway?
When a fatal crash occurs on a busy route like the Dan Ryan Expy, traffic disruptions can last for hours. Major interstates such as I-94 carry heavy volumes of late-night and early-morning traffic, making lane closures especially impactful.
After a serious collision, crews typically assess vehicle positions, roadway damage, and debris. In crashes involving injuries, medical transport and scene documentation can extend the time needed before lanes reopen.
Urban expressways also present unique risks. High speeds, merging traffic, and sudden braking can all contribute to serious collisions. Drivers are encouraged to maintain safe following distances and remain alert, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
