What Makes Rollover Crashes So Dangerous on Highways?
Rollover crashes often occur when a vehicle leaves the roadway, and the driver overcorrects. Sudden steering changes at highway speeds can cause a vehicle to lose balance and tip, especially larger vehicles with higher centers of gravity.
Ejection increases the risk of fatal or life-threatening injuries. Seat belt use can reduce the chance of being thrown from a vehicle during a rollover.
Highway rollovers may also block multiple lanes, leading to major traffic delays. The force involved in these crashes can cause significant damage, making emergency response and roadway clearance more complex.
