Moorpark, CA (March 1, 2026) – A fatal head-on collision has left two women dead on northbound Highway 23 just south of Los Angeles Avenue on Saturday, February 28. The crash was reported shortly after 2:00 p.m. and involved a Chevrolet Silverado and a Lexus ES 350.
Investigators said the Silverado, which had been traveling southbound, moved along the center median, lost control, crossed over the barrier, and entered the northbound lanes. The truck then struck the Lexus head-on. A female passenger in the Silverado was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, while the female driver of the Lexus also died at the scene. Both were from Los Angeles County.
Two other people suffered major injuries and were taken to a hospital. One additional person had minor injuries. Northbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours, with traffic diverted at Tierra Rejada Rd before one lane reopened and traffic began moving again.
No further details about the events leading up to the loss of control have been released. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
What Is Reviewed After a Median-Crossing Head-On Collision
Head-on crashes that occur after a vehicle crosses a median often involve high impact because both vehicles are traveling at roadway speeds. Investigators usually examine the median area, tire marks, and barrier damage to determine how the vehicle left its original lanes.
The position of the vehicles and the severity of the damage help show the angle and force of the collision. Ejections are also closely reviewed, as they can indicate how the impact affected the vehicle’s structure and occupant protection systems.
Traffic closures are common in these incidents to allow crews to document the scene and safely remove damaged vehicles. These steps help create a clear timeline of how the crash unfolded.
