North Chicago, IL (March 5, 2026) – Five people were hurt after a two-car crash Monday evening, March 2, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Dickey Avenue in North Chicago.
Emergency units were called to the intersection around 9:20 p.m. after reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles. Initial reports from a caller suggested one person might have died, but that information was later determined to be incorrect.
Responders found both vehicles heavily damaged at the scene. Five people involved in the crash were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Why Two-Vehicle Intersection Crashes Often Lead to Multiple Injuries
Crashes at intersections frequently involve more than one vehicle because traffic from different directions meets in the same space. Drivers may be turning, crossing, or traveling straight through the intersection at the same time.
When two vehicles collide at an intersection, the angle of impact can cause heavy damage to both cars. Side impacts and head-on collisions are common depending on how the vehicles enter the intersection.
Passengers and drivers in both vehicles may be affected, which can increase the number of people injured in a single crash. Even when speeds are moderate, the force from two moving vehicles can result in injuries.
Roadway design, traffic signals, and driver decisions at the moment of approach can influence how these crashes occur and how severe they become.
