Why Intersection Crashes Often Happen During Normal Traffic Flow
Many crashes occur at intersections where vehicles from different directions meet. Drivers may be turning, crossing, or continuing straight through the intersection simultaneously.
These movements require drivers to judge traffic speed and distance while following traffic signs or signals. Even a brief delay in reaction or a misunderstanding of right-of-way can lead to a collision.
Intersections on main roads often see steady traffic throughout the day. Vehicles approaching from side streets may need to cross several lanes, which can make timing a safe entry into traffic more difficult.
When crashes occur at intersections, the angle of impact can affect the level of vehicle damage and the number of people injured. Traffic patterns, visibility, and roadway design all influence how these incidents happen.
