St. Francois County, MO (March 5, 2026) – A 35-year-old man from Farmington was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Flat River Rd near Fairgrounds Drive in St. Francois County.
The collision occurred shortly after 12 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3. A westbound Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center line and struck a Dodge Journey head-on. The impact caused the Dodge to go off the right side of the roadway.
Unfortunately, the Chevrolet driver was pronounced dead at the scene around 12:30 p.m. Authorities noted that he was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the Dodge, an 18-year-old woman from Bonne Terre, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital in south St. Louis County. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and additional information may be released as it becomes available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Head-On Crashes Can Be Deadly and the Role of Seat Belts
Head-on collisions often result in severe injuries because the combined speed of the vehicles dramatically increases the force of impact. Even a moderate-speed collision can produce life-threatening outcomes.
Wearing a seat belt significantly reduces the risk of being ejected or seriously injured during such crashes. When a vehicle crosses into oncoming lanes, factors such as driver distraction, fatigue, or misjudgment of curves and road conditions may contribute.
Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, impact damage, skid marks, and roadway conditions to reconstruct the events and understand how the crash occurred.
