Richmond, KY (March 5, 2026) – Two people were injured in a crash involving a Kentucky State Police (KSP) cruiser on Thursday morning near the Exit 90 overpass on Lexington Road in Madison County.
The collision occurred early on March 5 as a KSP cruiser traveled westbound on Lexington Road. A car traveling eastbound attempted to turn left onto I-75 and struck the cruiser. A video obtained during the investigation showed the cruiser had a green traffic signal, while the other vehicle entered the intersection after disregarding the signal.
Both individuals were taken to hospitals for treatment of possible minor injuries. The driver of the car was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital, while the trooper was taken to Baptist Health Richmond. No additional details about their conditions have been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash and are reconstructing the scene. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care, and we extend our best wishes for a full recovery
How Crashes Involving Emergency Vehicles Often Occur
Collisions with emergency vehicles can happen when drivers fail to yield or misjudge the speed and position of a responding unit. Even when lights and sirens are active, intersections and left-turning traffic pose a high risk.
Investigators often review traffic signals, video footage, and witness statements to determine the sequence of events. Vehicle positions, point of impact, and roadway conditions are also examined to help reconstruct how the crash unfolded and why the collision occurred.
