Detroit, MI (March 8, 2026) – A deadly crash on Interstate 96 left one driver dead and another hospitalized early on Sunday morning, March 8. The incident occurred at 3:05 a.m. near Outer Drive.
Authorities report that a 23-year-old driver in a sedan was traveling eastbound when they lost control and collided with the rear of a tow truck. The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening conditions.
About 90 minutes later, a separate crash involved an SUV and a semi. While responding, a trooper’s patrol car was struck on the passenger side. The trooper was hospitalized but is expected to recover fully. Officials say the SUV driver was impaired by alcohol and narcotics and was arrested before being transported to a local hospital.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
