Understanding Early-Morning Highway Crashes
Crashes in the early morning often involve reduced visibility and driver fatigue, which can increase the risk of losing control. Highways like I-96 carry heavy traffic, and sudden stops or slowed vehicles, such as tow trucks, can be difficult for drivers to avoid.
Impairment from alcohol or drugs is another factor that contributes to collisions, affecting reaction time and decision-making. Emergency responders face additional hazards when attending multiple crashes, as oncoming traffic and limited lighting can make the scene more dangerous.
Drivers are generally reminded to maintain safe distances, stay alert, and follow speed limits, particularly during nighttime or early-morning travel.
