Why Rollover Crashes on Rural Roads Can Be Severe
Roads such as East 4800 North often pass through rural areas where vehicles may travel at higher speeds, and shoulders can be narrow. When a vehicle leaves the roadway in these areas, uneven ground or soft shoulders can increase the risk of a rollover.
Rollover crashes may occur when a vehicle drifts off the pavement, and the driver attempts a sudden correction. The shift in weight, especially in taller vehicles like pickup trucks, can cause the vehicle to tip or roll.
Seat belt use can affect the outcome of rollover crashes. When vehicles overturn several times, occupants who are not restrained may be thrown around inside the vehicle or ejected, increasing the chance of severe injuries.
